Day 1 | Arrival in Jakarta (April 25)
👉 Arrive at Jakarta International Airport, where the Unseen Expeditions team will be waiting to welcome you.
👉 Transfer to our hotel in Central Jakarta and settle into your room after the long journey.
👉 Take some time to relax after your international journey.
👉 Meet the rest of the group for our first briefing, where we’ll go through the journey ahead and what to expect.
👉 In the evening, gather for our first dinner together at a traditional Indonesian restaurant.

Day 2 | Jakarta: Food, History & Culture (April 26)
👉 Start the morning with bubur ayam, a beloved Indonesian chicken porridge, accompanied by local coffee.
👉 Step into the lively streets of Jakarta’s Old Town and Chinatown, exploring local markets and tasting some of the city’s everyday flavors.
👉 Enjoy lunch at a traditional Chinese restaurant tucked away in Jakarta’s historic Chinatown.
👉 Step into the local Chinatown experience with a traditional ear-cleaning session — if you’re feeling adventurous.
👉 Wander through Fatahillah Square and visit the Fatahillah History Museum to discover the layers of history behind the city.
👉 Stop for coffee and refreshments at the iconic Cafe Batavia, one of the area’s most atmospheric colonial-era landmarks.
👉 Continue to the Indonesia National Museum for a deeper look into the country’s extraordinary cultural diversity.
👉 After some time to rest at the hotel, head back out in the evening for a Jakarta street food experience, including freshly grilled seafood.

Day 3 | Jakarta → Bandung (April 27)
👉 Begin the morning at Jakarta’s Whoosh station and board the high-speed train towards Bandung.
👉 Arrive in West Java and head into the countryside, where volcanic landscapes and endless tea plantations begin to replace the city.
👉 Explore the spectacular White Crater, a turquoise volcanic lake surrounded by the dramatic landscape of Mount Patuha.
👉 Continue to a local village for a traditional Sundanese lunch and a first taste of the cuisine of West Java.
👉 Slow down over an afternoon coffee before continuing to Bandung.
👉 Check into our hotel and take some time to relax.
👉 In the evening, step into Bandung’s vibrant street food scene and discover why the city is famous for its food culture.

Day 4 | Bandung: Food, Family & Local Life (April 28)
👉 Start the day with a traditional Bandung breakfast before exploring one of the city’s local markets.

👉 Visit the home of a local Sundanese family and take part in preparing a traditional meal together.
👉 Sit down with the family and share the lunch you’ve helped prepare — an opportunity to experience Indonesian hospitality from inside a local home.
👉 Continue with a relaxed exploration of Bandung and its surrounding city life.
👉 Stop for an afternoon coffee before heading to the railway station.
👉 Board our evening train towards Yogyakarta and watch Java’s landscapes disappear into the night.
👉 Enjoy dinner during the journey before settling in for the overnight train ride.

Day 5 | Yogyakarta: The Heart of Java (April 29)
👉 Arrive in Yogyakarta and check into our hotel before beginning our exploration of one of Java’s cultural capitals.
👉 Ease into the morning with breakfast before wandering through a traditional local market.
👉 Visit the Yogyakarta Palace and discover the traditions and history of the city’s royal heritage.
👉 Continue to a local museum before sitting down for a lunch of traditional Javanese dishes.
👉 Discover jamu, the centuries-old Javanese tradition of herbal tonics and natural remedies.
👉 Spend the afternoon experiencing several elements of Javanese culture — from traditional dance and Batik to Javanese archery.
👉 Take a break over afternoon coffee before heading back into the city.
👉 As night falls, explore Yogyakarta’s lively streets and discover its famous night-time food scene.

Day 6 | Yogyakarta: Local Life & Borobudur (April 30)
👉 Begin with a traditional Yogyakarta breakfast before taking a morning stroll through a local market.
👉 Select fresh ingredients and prepare for a hands-on cooking experience with a Javanese family.
👉 Cook, eat and share stories together over lunch in the family’s home.
👉 Later, journey towards Borobudur, one of Indonesia’s most extraordinary cultural and architectural landmarks.
👉 Explore the magnificent temple complex and take in the surrounding landscapes of Central Java.
👉 Pause for an afternoon coffee near Borobudur before returning towards Yogyakarta.
👉 End the day with dinner at a traditional Javanese restaurant.

Day 7 | Yogyakarta → Padang (May 1)
👉 Leave Yogyakarta early and transfer to YIA Airport for our journey west.
👉 Enjoy breakfast and coffee at the airport before boarding our flight to Padang.
👉 Arrive in West Sumatra and immediately begin discovering the flavors of Minangkabau cuisine over lunch.
👉 Explore Padang, including the Siti Nurbaya Bridge and Malin Kundang Beach, while getting our first glimpse of life in Sumatra.
👉 Slow down over an afternoon coffee before continuing our exploration of the city.
👉 In the evening, dive into Padang’s street food scene and discover some of the bold flavors that make West Sumatran cuisine famous.
👉 Return to the hotel for some well-earned rest.

Day 8 | Padang: Food, Markets & Local Life (May 2)

👉 Visit the home of a local family and take part in preparing a traditional Padang meal.

Day 9 | Padang → Bukittinggi (May 3)
👉 Leave Padang behind and begin our journey into the highlands of West Sumatra.
👉 Start with a traditional Minangkabau breakfast before heading towards Bukittinggi.
👉 Stop along the way to taste the famous local beef satay in the Padangpanjang area.
👉 Explore the spectacular Harau Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs and lush green landscapes.
👉 Continue to Bukittinggi and enjoy Nasi Kapau, one of the region’s most iconic dishes, at the local market.
👉 Discover Ngarai Sianok, a dramatic canyon stretching through the highlands just outside the city.
👉 Take a break over afternoon coffee before continuing our exploration.

👉 End the day with a night walk around Jam Gadang, the iconic clock tower at the heart of Bukittinggi.

Day 10 | Bukittinggi → Singkarak (May 4)
👉 Leave Bukittinggi after breakfast and continue deeper into the Minangkabau heartland.

👉 Dress in traditional Minangkabau clothing and experience the culture of the region first-hand.
👉 Continue to Kampuang Minang Nagari Sumpu and arrive at an old traditional Rumah Gadang.
👉 Explore the wooden house and learn about the architecture, traditions and community that surround it.
👉 Share a traditional Bajamba lunch — a communal Minangkabau dining tradition.
👉 Explore the surrounding village before heading towards Lake Singkarak.
👉 Experience local fishing on the lake and get a glimpse into the traditional livelihoods of the community.

Day 11 | Singkarak: Into the Minangkabau Village (May 5)

👉 Set out on a trek through the surrounding hills and countryside.
👉 Continue to the Sumpu River for a rafting and tubing experience through the natural landscape.
👉 Return to the village and share lunch with the family of the Rumah Gadang.
👉 Learn the secrets behind one of Indonesia’s most famous dishes during a hands-on Beef Rendang cooking class.
👉 Enjoy your final evening in the village with dinner together inside the traditional Rumah Gadang.

Day 12 | Singkarak → Padang → Pulau Pisang (May 6)
👉 Enjoy a final traditional breakfast in the village before beginning our journey back towards Padang.
👉 Continue to Pulau Pisang for a day exploring the islands of Pulau Pisang Gadang and Pulau Pisang Ketek.
👉 Discover the islands, their landscapes and local communities away from the main tourist routes.
👉 Stop for lunch on the island and enjoy the slower rhythm of life by the sea.
👉 Return to the mainland and continue to Padang.
👉 Check into our hotel and take some time to relax after the day’s exploration.
👉 Gather together one final time for our farewell dinner and celebrate the journey we’ve shared across Java and Sumatra.
